NOVA Blog Tour

When I picked up sewing 2 years ago, An from StraightGrain has always been inspirational in this little journey of sewing for my children. Her designs are beautiful and I confess being a hoarder of her sewing patterns! So when she asked if I would like to join in the NOVA blog tour, I was over the moon!

And with her new paper patterns, sewing is simply a breeze. Don't get me wrong, PDF patterns are awesome but I just love the idea of opening a readily-printed pattern pack without the hassle of scaling my computer/printer.

The NOVA paper pattern includes patterns, instruction booklet printed in full colour, lovely packed in a coloured folder. Open it, trace and I was all ready to sew! And without a doubt, I made a NOVA in Liberty Tana Lawn.

The Liberty Tana Lawn I chose is Felicite B, a sweet rose trail pattern designed for Liberty in 1933. Like the Betsy and Wiltshire prints, Felicite was created by a designer with the initials D.S. and is part of the Liberty Classic collection. Little E is in a pink phase now so this print is perfect and yet, not overly sugary sweet.

I'm a smocking addict and I love NOVA's 4 options of pleating methods - box, zigzag, flat and honeycomb. Aspiring smockers will love the honeycomb smocking technique, which creates a loving diamond design on the dress. I stitched mine with DMC Mouline Special 25 cotton threads in red and blue to create a more subtle effect.

NOVA offers options of sewing a dress or blouse, with multiple sleeve, back options and even a peter pan collar. I made a simple back button closure with a matching scarlet fabric button. An's instructions are easy to understand, and detailed in explanation. Available in both PDF and paper patterns, NOVA is a definite must have in your sewing patterns collection.

The slightly A-line dress also enables little E to twirl, run and sit comfortably, and Liberty Tana Lawn is perfect for the hot, humid climate in Singapore! I can't wait to sew more NOVAs and thank you, An, for the privilege of sewing for this blog tour!
